United States records

Rates are per 100,000 people. Country figures are as published by UNODC (Crime Trends Survey); legal definitions and recording practices differ between countries, so cross-country comparisons are indicative only. Where UNODC publishes only a count for a category (serious assault, rape, sexual violence, kidnapping, robbery), the rate shown is derived: the UNODC count divided by the population implied by UNODC's own homicide count and rate for the same country and year. Derived rates are marked. US state figures are FBI estimates (Summary Reporting System); US city figures are offenses known to law enforcement (FBI Table 8). For both, the rate is the FBI's standard calculation: offenses ÷ population × 100,000, using the population in the same FBI file. Rape uses the revised FBI definition from 2013 and the legacy definition before. Arson is reported for cities only. Agencies or countries without a figure for a year show “No data”.
