Colombian Army neutralizes 600 kg explosive charge under Pan-American Highway in Cauca

Photos posted Oct. 20, 2026 by Colombia's National Army. The army says soldiers of the Third Division's MARTE group worked for six hours to neutralize an explosive charge of about 600 kg placed under a culvert on the Pan-American Highway between Piedra Sentada and the El Bordo toll in Cauca, and removed 12 banners referring to the Carlos Patiño structure, protecting more than 400 families and reopening the road. The photos show a bomb-disposal technician in a protective suit beside a robot, a soldier inside the culvert, and troops standing by three gas cylinders on the road. Caracol Radio reports the army preliminarily attributed the charge to the Carlos Patiño group of FARC dissidents; that attribution is the army's and has not been proven.
