U.S. Navy photo distributed by DVIDS. The Navy says it shows the destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) defeating a combination of Houthi missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles in the Red Sea on Oct. 19, 2023. Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said that day that Carney shot down three land-attack cruise missiles and several drones launched by Houthi forces in Yemen, possibly toward targets in Israel, and that no U.S. personnel were hurt. Archive item tied to the October 2026 Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and Egypt's request for authority to defend the kingdom.
