U.S. Embassy Haiti photo from Jan. 3, 2025. The embassy caption says soldiers from Guatemala and El Salvador arrived that day for the UN-sanctioned Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission to Haiti; the photo shows a column of troops in camouflage and berets walking across an airport apron. The MSS mission preceded the Gang Suppression Force, whose four Salvadoran soldiers were reported unaccounted for after an ambush on Oct. 18, 2026 (exeindex record dispatch:2026-10-19-haiti-gsf-ambush).
